How a Pressure Sore Seat Pad Works
A pressure sore seat pad is a specialised cushioning product designed to reduce the risk of pressure ulcers forming on the buttocks and thighs during prolonged sitting. It sits on top of an existing seating surface and redistributes pressure away from high-risk areas.
Limited mobility, illness, age or recovery from surgery can increase the risk of pressure damage. Spreading body weight over a larger area helps relieve stress on the tailbone (coccyx), hips and ischial tuberosities (the “sit bones”). Breathable materials improve comfort and help manage moisture and temperature at the skin surface.
Suitable for home care, community care, nursing homes and hospitals, the pad is part of a wider pressure-care strategy that includes repositioning, skin inspection and good overall care.
